About
Welcome to The Busy Bee digital archive. Here, you can view high-resolution photographs of the volumes that are currently on loan from the collection of Charles Eden to the University of Exeter.
The articles in The Busy Bee were written by a group of family, friends, and friends of friends. They used pseudonyms that we have, in some instances, been able to pair with known individuals using handwriting and content analysis. Submissions to The Busy Bee included short stories, poems, magazine clippings, collage, photographs, and drawings.
There are multiple ways that you can navigate the magazines, including via:
- Volumes
- Authors – contributors whom we have identified
- Pseudonyms – the names under which The Busy Bee articles were published
- Types – forms of contribution (i.e. prose, poetry, image)
When viewing a record, you can easily navigate to the entries immediately before and after an article by clicking the backwards and forwards buttons underneath the image.
This archive has been digitized as part of the AHRC-funded The Art of Fiction project, which runs from October 2023 until March 2025. We would like to enhance this archive and, if you have content that you wish to submit, please email Dr Patricia Zakreski.
